Steel Bars

Steel bars are one of the fundamental building blocks of the manufacturing industry. Used across a broad spectrum from automotive to energy, defense to hydraulic systems, steel bars offer tailored solutions for every application through diverse production methods including hot rolling, cold drawing, forging, and free-cutting processes.

Steel Bars

Steel bars are semi-finished steel products manufactured in round, square, hexagonal, and rectangular cross-sections. They play an indispensable role in machine components, shafts and axles, fasteners, mold parts, and structural load-bearing elements. Selecting the right grade and production method directly determines the final product's performance, machinability, and cost efficiency.

Hot Rolled Steel Bars
Produced according to EN 10060, hot rolled bars are the most widely used form for structural applications and general engineering purposes. Available in grades such as S235JR, S355J2, C45, and 42CrMo4, these bars are manufactured in diameters from 10 mm to 300 mm. They serve as raw material for machining operations or are used directly as structural members.

Bright Steel and Cold Drawn Products
Bright steel bars conforming to EN 10278 are produced through the cold drawing process. This process imparts superior dimensional accuracy (h9–h11 tolerance), low surface roughness (Ra ≤ 1.6 μm), and enhanced mechanical properties to the product. Cold drawn products are available in round, square, and flat profiles. They are preferred for hydraulic cylinder rods, piston rods, automation shafts, and precision machine components. Compared to hot rolled stock, their tighter tolerances minimize the need for additional machining, thereby reducing production costs.

Forged Bars
Forged bars are used in applications demanding high mechanical strength and fatigue resistance. Produced through open-die or closed-die forging methods, these products offer homogeneous grain structure and superior internal integrity. Grades such as 42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, and AISI 4140 are widely used in energy sector turbine shafts, mining equipment, and heavy machinery axles.

Free-Cutting Steels
Grades such as 11SMn30, 11SMnPb30, and 44SMn28 provide optimum chip breakage and extended tool life in high-speed lathes and CNC machining centers. Produced according to EN 10277, free-cutting steels are essential for mass-produced fasteners, bushings, pins, and valve bodies. Both leaded (Pb) and lead-free alternatives are available.

Carbon Steel Bars
Heat-treatable carbon steels under DIN EN 10083-1 (C35, C45, C60, Ck45) form the backbone of general mechanical engineering. Reaching 700–900 MPa tensile strength after hardening and tempering, these grades are the standard choice for gears, shafts, axles, and camshaft production.

Case Hardening Steels
Grades such as 16MnCr5, 20MnCr5, and 18CrNiMo7-6 under DIN EN 10084 are specifically designed for surface hardening (carburizing) applications. The combination of a hard outer surface (58–62 HRC) and a tough inner core delivers ideal performance in gear wheels, cam followers, and bearing races.

Choosing the Right Steel Bar
Steel bar selection depends on the following criteria: mechanical load profile (static/dynamic/fatigue), machinability requirements, dimensional tolerance expectations, heat treatment applicability, and cost-performance balance. Cold drawn bright steel is recommended for hydraulic applications requiring high precision; forged bars for mining equipment operating under heavy loads; and free-cutting steel for high-volume turning operations. Project-based technical consultation is advised to determine the optimal grade, tolerance, and delivery conditions.
